When most of us think of back pain, we often consider discomfort in the lower back area. While this is a common place to experience back discomfort, many people can experience upper back pain as well. There are a number of reasons why you might have back pain in the upper area including poor posture, injury or sitting in front of a computer all day. And while upper back pain can be an uncomfortable condition indeed, there are a number of options in treatment that can put you back on the road to pain-free days once again.

Many of the reasons for upper back pain include a lack of strength and conditioning or repetitive motions. There are also injuries that can occur to the upper back from performing a sport or getting in a car accident. No matter what the reason is for your upper back pain, there are a number of options in treatment plans available. Some can be effectively done at home and others will require the help of your doctor. Most people find that home remedies are usually the first course of action, and if these don’t bring relief for your upper back pain, your doctor can offer additional therapy options to you.

Home Remedies

To treat upper back pain at home, the first course of action is often to apply ice to the affected area. This can be done every three or four hours, and should be repeated for the first day or two after the injury occurs. After the first couple of days, you can switch to a heating pad a number of times each day to bring relief from the pain. Another good home remedy for upper back pain is to use an over the counter pain reliever – preferably one with anti-inflammatory properties like ibuprofen or naproxen. You can also try a topical cream that contains capsaicin, but the jury is still out on whether these types of remedies are truly effective.

What your Doctor can do

If home remedies don’t bring the relief from your upper back pain that you are hoping for, your doctor has additional treatment options available. These can include prescription pain medicine that can work when over the counter options don’t. It might also mean a combination of medication and physical therapy that will strengthen the area and prevent future problems. Other types of treatment that might be recommended for upper back pain include chiropractic treatments, acupuncture or deep tissue massage. These treatments may require a referral to a different type of specialist that can offer assistance in these areas.

Upper back pain can be a difficult problem to live with, but the good news is that you don’t have to live with it for long. By using effective home remedies or talking to your doctor about additional treatment options, you can say goodbye to your upper back pain for good.

Both stomach and back pain are common ailments that almost everyone will have felt at some point of time or the other in their lives and they are also something that can be treated without too much fuss or bother, unless particularly severe. The only kind of stomach and back pain that gives reason to be worried is one that is such that it cannot be ignored because it could be an indicator that something else that is serious has gone wrong with you.

As far as the stomach pain is concerned you should consider a few things that will help you realize the seriousness of this type of pain and it could be due to a woman’s pregnant state, or it could be something worse in which the stomach may feel tender to the touch. If a pregnant woman feels stomach pain, and it is accompanied by bleeding, it could be indicative of something serious such as ectopic pregnancy, or even miscarriage.

Other types of stomach pain are appendicitis conditions, infectious diarrhea, bowel bleeding, perforated appendix and pancreatitis and even bowel blockage. However, if you have both stomach and back pain, it could be that you have gallstones, or even and infected gallbladder, which is a serious condition that warrants needing to see your doctor without any delay.

Kidney Stones, Or Even Tumors

Other types of conditions that you may be suffering from when it concerns stomach and back pain is any condition in which you have pain as a result of kidney stones, or even because of a tumor, and when accompanied by a fever, it could indicate that you have kidney or even bladder infection, which means that you need to head to the nearest hospital and get further and prompt medical attention.

The simplest treatment for stomach and back pain, when it is a result of having eaten something unpalatable, is to sip water or suck on some chips of ice. However, if such a condition is serious enough you will have to see a doctor, especially when the pain is severe and persistent and it only seems to get worse, or even when it is accompanied by shortness of breath and bleeding or even dizziness, high fever or vomiting.

In case of stomach and back pain, it is necessary for you to describe to the doctor exactly the pain that you are feeling and also describe where it hurts you the most, and also the feelings of pain that it causes because the proper diagnosis would only then be possible if you are clear about letting the doctor know about your exact problem.

You are usually in excellent health, but unfortunately for the past few days you have been experiencing a skipped heart beat with upper back pain. This is a potentially serious occurrence, and you need more ideas on what the problem could possibly be, so that you can tell your doctor.

Self-Diagnosing is Not a Good Idea!

Something that unfortunately too many people do is self-diagnosing their health problems, such as the skipped heart beat with upper back pain that you have been experiencing. This is especially prevalent among people who do not have healthcare.

The bottom line is that you are saving your life by seeking the necessary healthcare. However, before you go to a physician (with which you should make an appointment as soon as possible) you can ascertain certain causes of the skipped heart beat with upper back pain.

First of all, you need to think about your current schedule. Are you the kind of person who can be categorized as a workaholic? If so, the stress from your job might contribute to the amount of skipped heart beat with upper back pain symptoms that you have been having.

Of course, stress is perhaps the least of your worries if that is, in fact, what is causing the skipped heart beat with upper back pain. It is important to note that stress should not be taken lightly either, because if untreated it can lead to more serious health problems.

Another cause of the skipped heart beat with upper back pain could be one or more clogged arteries. If you are a fan of fatty foods, all of the fat from those foods over time builds up in your blood stream in the form of high cholesterol

This high amount of cholesterol results in the ventricles and arteries of the heart becoming clogged. The result is an irregular heart beat as the heart struggles to pump the thickened blood through. If this is something that you think you might have, get to your doctor as soon as possible, because if you leave it alone you could end up with a stroke or heart attack.

For more information on your skipped beat with upper back pain symptoms, you can consult a medical dictionary or encyclopedia, which usually can be found at a local bookstore. Remember, though, make sure you first and foremost seek the help of a medical professional.

When you get severe back pain and try to find treatment, you will inevitably be told, even by a licensed doctor, that they suspect your pain is all in your head. Expect this. These doctors have seen a lot of fraudsters (trying to get insurance money) and also have read about a theory very popular in the 1990’s. When this theory was promoted by national radio shock jock Howard Stern, even more medical people gave this theory credence. What is this theory? That your severe back pain is all in your head.

Who Says So?

Sigmund Freud, considered the father of modern psychiatry, often noted in his writings and lectures that mental problems could give a patient inexplicable pains, including severe back pain. He recommended that the only cure was a psychiatric one. This idea has fallen in and out of favor since the early 1900’s.

Many books dealing with chronic pain in the 1970’s and 1980’s also supported the idea that severe back pain was all in a person’s head. Two of these books included the popular Oh, My Aching Back by Leon Root, MD and Thomas Kiernan (1973), which claimed exercises, better posture and affirmations would be best for severe back pain. The Back Doctor by Hamilton Hall, MD (1980) claimed that most (but not all) severe back pain was due to emotional stress.

The Great Mystery

When you have severe back pain, you think that the mystery of intelligent life on other planets will be solved long before anyone can you an accurate diagnosis. Many people with severe back pain must go to many doctors and specialists before finding out why their back hurts. Many tests, medicines and therapies seem to be a hit or miss affair. This is normal. It seems severe back pain can become as individual as the people they cause to suffer.

But do not give up hope. If one doctor can’t help you, get another. It is in a doctor’s best interests to admit defeat and try to recommend someone with more knowledge of back pain. With the advancement in MRI scans, seeing minute problems in the back can speed up diagnosis. Surgery is always a last resort, but will be recommended by any doctor if you start loosing bowel and bladder control (which is partially controlled by the spine). Even a doctor who says the pain is all in your head won’t be able to argue with that.

Any type of back pain can be a challenging problem to deal with. Discomfort in this area of the body can lead to difficulty getting around and enjoying the activities that you are used to. The large majority of back pain is caused by muscle strain, and will take care of itself over a period of time with the help of over the counter medications and other home remedies. However, right side back pain may have other causes, which may warrant a visit to the doctor for a definitive diagnosis and effective treatment plan. It is important to understand what some of the culprits in right side back pain might be.

Infection

If you are experiencing right side back pain that begins as a dull ache and gradually increases in intensity, and is accompanied by other symptoms like fever and nausea, you may have a urinary tract infection. Other symptoms of an infection may include a burning sensation while urinating or a constant pressure in the bladder. If you suspect that the reason for your right side back pain might be a urinary tract infection, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor. He can do a urine test to determine whether you do indeed have an infection, and prescribe medication if this does turn out to be the problem.

Hernia

A hernia could be another reason for right side back pain, especially if the pain is localized to the lower back area. Although a hernia is not a life-threatening condition, it does require treatment by a doctor to avoid possible complications and further pain. In many cases, the best course of action for a hernia is surgery. The good news is that by repairing the hernia, you will be able to get rid of your right side back pain once and for all.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is another condition that can cause right side back pain. This type of pain is generally more widespread, and may include other symptoms like bloating, gas, nausea and fatigue. Irritable bowel syndrome can be treated through a high fiber diet and an increased intake of liquids. Your doctor may also prescribe medications or other types of treatment to care for your irritable bowel syndrome. If you get this potentially painful condition under control through these methods, you should notice a significant reduction in your right side back pain as well.

There are any number of reasons that you could be experiencing right side back pain, and not all of them are related to muscle strains and pulls. This is why it is a good idea to see your doctor about right side back pain so that you can get an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment plan.

Pregnancy is a time of life that brings many changes to the body and a number of symptoms to grapple with. One of the symptoms that many women have trouble dealing with, particularly in the later stages of pregnancy, is pregnancy back pain. There are many different reasons why pregnancy back pain can occur, and there are also many ways to manage the discomfort. If you are experiencing pregnancy back pain, don’t assume that it simply “goes with the territory” and try to ignore it. Instead, talk to your doctor about options in finding relief from the discomfort.

The Dilemma of the Expanding Belly

The enlarged stomach is one of the first reasons for pregnancy back pain for a couple of different reasons. First, the additional weight can put additional strain on your back, especially your lower back area. That expanding belly can also throw off your center of gravity, causing you to walk and hold yourself differently to accommodate your new shape. This can lead to increased pressure on your lower back, and result in pregnancy back pain. Another problem in pregnancy is that the increase in hormones can lead to laxity of the joints, which will offer less support to the back and lead to discomfort in the area.

There are a number of activities that can aggravate pregnancy back pain. Some of these can be easily avoided during those nine months, and others simply must be tolerated due to a lack of alternatives. Use extra care when twisting and turning, bending over or lifting items, since it is easier for strains and injuries to occur to the back when you are in this condition. Other activities that can contribute to pregnancy back pain are walking, running, using stairs or rolling in bed. While most of these activities cannot be avoided completely, you can exercise additional caution when performing them to avoid additional strain on the back.

Treatment Options

Treatment of pregnancy back pain can include exercises that are appropriate for this stage of life, and an adjustment in some daily activities that can strain the back when you are in this state. You can talk to a healthcare professional about proper techniques for posture and performing daily tasks like housework. Your healthcare professional can also offer hands-on treatments for pregnancy back pain and instruct you on your own pain management strategies. Pregnancy back pain doesn’t have to be an unfortunate byproduct for the next nine months. Talk to your doctor today about methods of pregnancy back pain relief.

Almost everyone suffers from at least some form of back pain at one point in their life, and so it is definitely an issue that everyone should be informed on. There are many different types of back pain that you can suffer from, but the most common is lower back pain, which radiates around the area of the spine at the bottom of the back.

There is also the difference between acute and chronic pain. Acute back pain is defined as pain that lasts for less than six months and this is the kind of back pain that is not considered as being too severe or worrisome. The longer the pain goes on however, the more susceptible it is to other influences and to possibly developing into a serious chronic pain problem.

Chronic back pain is pain in the back that lasts for more than six months, and there are actually at least two different types of chronic pain problems – pain that is caused due to an identifiable pain generator and the chronic pain that has no identifiable pain generator.

Healing Back Pain

Regardless of what specific type of back pain you have, there are methods that you can use to go about healing your back pain. If your back pain is not too serious then it really all depends on your personal opinion and on what you would prefer to do to relieve your pain.

Yoga is one of the most popular options for healing back pain, as it is a mind body exercise system that helps to ease back pain and neck pain and as well improves the back and neck conditions in general, even if you are not suffering from any pain. Most people are tight in key areas of the body that affect the spine, such as in the hips and shoulders. Yoga helps to relieve and relax these areas as well, and thereby releases the tension in the muscles around the back area.

There are even different styles of yoga that you can choose to practice, ranging from gentle to vigorous. If you have particularly severe back pain then the best idea is to start off with an easier form of yoga and focus more on relaxation and meditation techniques first. Hatha yoga is an excellent option, and styles such as Kundalini, Ashtanga and Bikram are a bit more specialized and challenging and should not be a starting style of yoga.

Another option for healing back pain is to use medication, but this can only be prescribed by your doctor and should really only be used if you have chronic back pain.

There are so many causes of back pain that a treatment that works for one person may not work for another. Pharmaceuticals can kill pain successfully, but the side effects are debilitating and will eventually cause significant decline in the quality of life.

It seems that finding natural back pain relief is never ending, as a treatment that has worked for months no longer has the same effect. Luckily there are so many methods of relieving back pain naturally that chances are you will find something that works for you right now.

Vitamins And Minerals

We all know that vitamins and minerals are important to our overall health. But there are some vitamins and minerals that specifically promote muscular and skeletal health. Vitamins D and B12 have been shown to effect bone and muscle condition and are even directly related to relieving back pain naturally.

Magnesium regulates muscles and nerve function and helps maintain a healthy heart rhythm, all aiding muscle health. A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids is also used to naturally relieve back pain.

Relaxing, Natural Relief

Most people think of massage when they think about natural back pain relief. And it is true that proper massage is a very important and helpful therapy. Many resorts and day spas offer a variety of massage therapies.

Alternative Medicinal Practices

Acupuncture and chiropractic techniques are known to greatly alleviate pain throughout the body without the use of drugs. These are both natural and effective ways to relieve back pain for most people. Ask your doctor to refer you to a licensed practitioner or ask friends and family members for recommendations.

There are many other treatments that naturally relieve back pain such as capsaicin cream, music therapy and prolotherapy. A little research can go along way to easing your back pain using natural therapies.

Back pain is something that most of us has experienced at least once in a lifetime and there are different types that can affect you among which are middle back pain which often occurs because of strained muscles and even due to strained ligaments. It is usual to experience middle back pain when you have performed strenuous exercises or have lifted some heavy weights, and it is also caused by problems with the spine, or due to some other internal problems.

Persistent Pain Could Portend To Serious Condition

If your middle back pain continues to trouble you for more than some few days, or if you notice other bothersome symptoms, it should serve as a warning about possibly even more serious problems and thus you must seek out medical advice at the very earliest and without delays. It is also necessary to understand the reasons why a person suffers from middle back pain and find suitable treatment methods should you get affected by this problem.

First off, you should understand that the middle back is inherently strong and also stable and thus is not so likely to suffer from disc herniation, or degenerative discs and also not spinal stenosis, or any form of instability of the spine. Other than this, it is also usually not very easy to find out the causes of middle back pain even despite using MRI or CT scans.

Nevertheless, middle back pain is most often caused by sudden injuries or even by trauma, and if you are one that sits with a poor posture, you could be at risk of suffering from middle back pain, and it also occurs after having sat before a computer from a prolonged period of time. Still, the most likely causes of middle back pain are muscular irritation and also joint dysfunction, for which you can use anti-inflammatory medications to get relief.

Middle back pain is also commonly felt by school-going children that bear heavy school bags on their shoulders to and from school, while if you feel middle back pain on your left side, it could be a sign to an impending heart attack which thus warrants consulting a doctor without any delay. Sometimes, middle back pain can also occur amidst the shoulders and your hand may subsequently become numb, and this is attributed to disc herniation and even to disc degeneration, though to get to the bottom of the problem, you would need to consult a qualified physician.

When we sleep the muscles, ligaments and other tissues in our spine get a chance to completely relax and rest. To maintain a healthy back and spine restful sleep is imperative. It is even more important when recuperating from any back injury or disorder.

Each night we retire to our beds and expect to get a good nights sleep relying on our mattress to support us properly allowing us to completely relax. Often this does not happen and we end up with a backache in the morning. It is no wonder that the airwaves are filled with promises about the newest mattresses guaranteed to relieve back pain, or at least prevent it.

Sleeping Positions For Better Rest

Although a worn mattress can cause back pain, a more likely culprit is the position in which we sleep. The best position for sleeping on a mattress to alleviate back pain is flat on your back with a small pillow under the knees. This position eases all pressures on the back allowing for complete relaxation. Granted, most people cannot get comfortable in this position and will not be able to fall asleep or stay in this position for long.

Using pillows strategically is the key. Side sleepers should place a pillow between the legs to alleviate pressure on the hips and spine. Stomach sleepers should place a flat pillow under the stomach and hips to avoid strain on the lower back. Supporting the neck is also extremely important, so very small pillows come in very handy for this purpose.

People that suffer from back pain when standing or lying stretched out might find an adjustable bed that allows for elevated head and knees can relieve back pain regardless of the mattress type. Even choosing to sleep in a reclining chair can be better than a normal flat bed for some people. If your back pain is lessoned when you lean over, this may be the best option for you.

Choosing A Mattress For Back Pain Relief

If your mattress noticeably sags in the middle it is definitely time to buy a new one. Generally a mattress with sufficient support will help you to avoid muscle aches and pains every morning. But finding a mattress specifically for back pain relief is more complicated. To date there have been so scientifically recognized tests of any mattresses as they relate to back pain. So finding the right mattress for you may be more difficult than you thought.

Probably the best way to choose the right mattress for your back pain is to test “drive” different makes and models. This is not easy to do, but not impossible either. Ask friends and family members about their mattresses and whether or not you can spend one night sleeping on it. Call hotels in your area, or when planning a trip, and ask what kind of mattresses they have on their beds. Try to stay at a number of hotels with different makes of mattresses to make a fair comparison. If you don’t have these options you might try a thirty-day trial that a number of companies offer. Just try to choose wisely and don’t fall for false medical claims or advertising gimmicks.

The spine has so much to do, it’s a wonder it doesn’t shatter into a million pieces by the time we’ve graduated college. Most people take their strong, healthy spines completely for granted – until the pain begins for any reason. As long as the human race has had a spine, they’ve had some sort of lower back pain. For millennia, this has produced a variety of lower back pain remedies in the form of folk magic and spirit petitioning. These spells are in no way intended to substitute for medical treatment, although they certainly won’t hurt you.

Pain Sponge Folk Magic

In many cultures, the village healer would attempt to draw out the pain and place it into something else, then throw that something else away, thereby “getting rid of” the pain. Traditional items that acted as a pain sponge for lower back pain remedies were eggs, potatoes, rocks and even pieces of meat. A Feng Shui lower back pain remedy is to place a bamboo flute in between your box spring and mattress, and you continue sleeping on the mattress as usual.

The Wax Doll Or Poppet

It’s not just practitioners of hoodoo, more commonly known as voodoo, that make their magic happen with small dolls. Although we are all familiar with the image of sticking pins into a wax doll, the dolls were originally used for healing, including use as a lower back pain remedy. The doll would be made with a piece of the patient (hair, fingernails, whatever) and named after the patient. The doll would be stood straight up and told not to have any back pain. Then, the doll would be kept in a very safe place.

Petitioning Saints Or Spirits

The most common healing spells used as lower back pain remedies today are petitions to saints of area churches, hot springs or holy shrines. Thousands of years ago, spirits were given such petitions, given gifts in exchange for release of the pain. These gifts included flowers, incense, food, drink, tobacco and even small sculptures of backs. Today, numerous saints are daily prayed to by Catholics as hope the prayers will act as lower back pain remedies. There are numerous wishing trees and wells in Europe, where a wish is spoken to a pretty ribbon or flag and tied to a tree or over a well known for granting wishes. Even today, prayer flags are still used by Tibetans.

Lately you have been waking up each morning with extreme back pain. You are already grouchy enough in the morning having to get up early for work, and suffering from lower back pain mainly in the morning is certainly not helping your morning mood. Thus, the time has come to consider getting a new mattress.

New Mattresses and Lumbar Support

Since you are only suffering from lower back pain mainly in the morning, there is little doubt that the mattress you are sleeping on is probably the culprit. Now, if you are on a budget, chances are that you are hesitant about getting a mattress. However, don’t you want to get rid of that lower back pain you experience mainly in the morning?

If you mattress is more than 10 years old, then you really need to order a new mattress as soon as possible. If you do not, your back pain will continue to get worse. The reason for this is that older mattresses simply were not designed for anything but comfort, and that comfort can indeed be deceiving.

For example, a basic mattress contains springs and the mattress part itself. People generally like to get a softer mattress, thinking that not only will they avoid suffering from lower back pain mainly in the morning, but they will also have a more restful sleep.

This is actually a fallacy, because the softer the bed, the more back pain you are likely to experience! This is because as you toss and turn during the night in a soft bed, your back muscles have no structure to support them, they are moving around just as much as you are. Thus, you experience lower back pain mainly in the morning because of it.

A harder mattress might not be as comfortable, but it is beneficial in that it keeps all your muscles together, thus they generally avoid causing lower back pain mainly in the morning. Ideally, the mattress that you choose should not be too soft or too hard, but should rather conform to the shape of your body.

If you would like more information on new mattresses, go to your local mattress store or furniture store and ask the customer service representatives to help you. There are indeed many different brands of mattresses to choose from, but you are sure to find the right one for you with the proper research.

There are many causes of lower back pain including lumbar strains and nerve irritation brought on by injury, wear and tear or arthritis. Lower back pain in women is caused by all the same things as men with a few exceptions such as pregnancy. Pregnancy causes lower back pain in women that can start in the early stages and continue through the late stages and beyond. Lower back pain is a symptom that can also come about because of disease in other organs. For example, bladder infections or appendicitis can cause terrible lower back pain. To relieve this back pain the underlying disease must be treated.

Pregnancy And Lower Back Pain

It is easy to see that pregnancy almost always causes lower back pain in women. As the baby grows and the mother gains weight she must compensate for the forward pull from her growing stomach by pulling her upper body back. This causes great strain resulting in pain in the lower back. Women suffer from general muscle pain throughout a pregnancy because the temporary changes in her body causes imbalances that put strain on many body parts. Standing, sitting and moving in general become more and more difficult as the pregnancy continues.

Lower back pain in women during pregnancy most likely will continue to worsen as time passes and may last for some time after giving birth. Stretching and other gentle exercises can help as well as heat and ice treatments. As a new mother regains her natural weight and slowly gets back to her normal routine, including regular exercise, her lower back pain should subside unless an injury or some other trauma has occurred.

Diseases Specific To Women

There are some diseases that only effect women and can cause lower back pain. Because female reproduction organ are susceptible to ailments such as various ovarian disorders and uterine conditions lower back pain in women is common. In these instances, treating the underlying problem will usually relieve the pain.

Bladder infections are much more common in women than in men and are very likely to cause lower back pain. In all cases of lower back pain in women, when pregnancy has been ruled out, tests should be done to eliminate these other causes. Some women with these ailments never have any other symptoms and use self-help treatments for the lower back pain allowing the underlying disease go unchecked.

There are many ways to treat lower back pain in women, even during pregnancy. Ask your doctor for advice before starting any self-help treatment or exercise program so that other health problems can be ruled out.

Back pain will affect up to 80% of adult Americans at one time or another, and for many the lower back will be the source of the pain. In most cases, the cause of lower back pain is muscle strain, injury or overuse of the back. In these situations, the best course of action, once the acute pain has healed, is to begin a program of lower back pain exercises that will strengthen the muscles of the core and support the lower back. There are many different types of lower back pain exercises that you can try, but your best bet is to incorporate a variety of exercises that will strengthen the entire body, including the lower back area.

Aerobic Activity

Aerobic activity does not just make a good lower back pain exercise; it will strengthen the rest of your body as well. Aerobic exercise is a key in maintaining a healthy weight, which will reduce the strain on the lower back as well. And aerobic activity will keep your heart and cardiovascular system healthy – another plus to committing to this type of exercise every day. To reduce the strain on the lower back, begin with a program of daily walking that is low impact. You can start with a short amount of time, and gradually increase the time spent as you get used to the workout. Another good type of aerobic activity that is gentle on the lower back is the recumbent bike at your local fitness center.

Strengthening

Strengthening exercises are important for keeping the muscles of the core strong and conditioned. If you want to use strength training as a lower back pain exercise, it is a good idea to do so under the supervision of a doctor, physical therapist or personal trainer. This way, you will not cause further injury to your back by performing exercises improperly. As you are focusing on strengthening the muscles of the lower back, don’t forget to work the area of the abdominal muscles as well. A strong, tight abdomen will offer better support to the lower back, and reduce your further incidences of injury and pain.

Stretching

While strength training will lead to stronger muscles, gentle stretching will result in increased flexibility and less chance of injury. These types of lower back pain exercises can be done to relieve the pain as well as to strengthen the area, as long as you perform the exercises carefully and gently. Again, stretching and flexibility training are best when they are done under the supervision of a physical therapist or a personal trainer who can ensure that you do the stretches correctly and safely.

Lower back pain can put a damper on your life, but lower back pain exercises can help reduce the pain and prevent further problems in the future.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that when your back hurts, everything else seems off kilter as well. You want relief from the discomfort that you are experiencing, and you want it yesterday! While most low back pain relief won’t happen overnight, there are effective treatment options that will get the pain under control and allow you to enjoy your life once again. However, in the case of low back pain relief, it is often a matter of trial and error to see which pain management strategies will work the best for you. Therefore, it is best to enter into the process of low back pain relief with patience, persistence and the confidence that you will indeed find the right therapy for you.

Home Treatments

For acute back pain, which only lasts a few days to a couple of weeks, home treatments are often the best course of action for low back pain relief. Start with ice therapy that you apply every two to three hours for the first day or two. Make sure that you only keep the ice on the area for a few minutes at a time, and never apply it directly to the skin. You can follow up after a couple of days with heat therapy that is applied with a heating pad or by taking a hot shower. You can also repeat the heat therapy every few hours for a few days. The heat will successfully relax the muscles and reduce the inflammation that usually accompanies a strain or an injury.

Combine this type of therapy with an over the counter pain medication for maximum results in your low back pain relief. The best choice here is often an anti-inflammatory medicine like ibuprofen or naproxen. However, talk to your doctor before taking these types of medications for a number of days, since they can have undesirable side effects in some people. Finally, you can rest the injured area for a day or two. Just keep in mind that resting for longer than this can actually counter the effects, making your pain worse instead of better. A day or two of rest and resuming normal activities as much as possible after that is the best course of action in low back pain relief.

Talking to your Doctor

When home remedies do not bring the desired low back pain relief, your doctor has additional options for you. Perhaps you need a stronger pain medication to get you past the acute phase of your pain. Or you might need a few rounds of physical therapy to bring low back pain relief and reduce your odds of having additional problems in the future. Your doctor can also advise you in alternative therapies like chiropractic care, acupuncture or deep tissue massage. All of these have been found to bring low back pain relief in some of the patients who have tried them.

Your back may hurt, but there are plenty of methods to reduce the pain. Try these suggestions in home remedies or talk to your doctor today about your options in low back pain relief.

Four out of five adults suffer from at least some sort of back pain at some point in their lives, and in fact, back pain is one of the most common reasons for health care visits and missed work. There are methods of treatment that are available for back pain however, some of which will not only help to relieve the present symptoms but which will also assist in preventing a reoccurrence of the back pain in the future.

Lipitor and Back Pain

When it comes to the treatment of back pain, the particular method of treatment that is going to work best for you will depend on your particular condition and on the severity of your condition. However, there are a few more basic methods of treatment that typically work well on all conditions, one in particular being Lipitor.

Lipitor is a prescription that is quickly becoming one of the most popular medications for back pain worldwide. It is a drug that is classified as being in one of the newest classes of cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins, and these drugs have been widely used for years, the last five in particular.

The drug works by blocking a particular enzyme in the liver that your body uses to make up cholesterol. It reduces low-density lipprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol in the blood, as this in turn helps to prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease.

Lipitor and back pain is definitely not one of the first methods of treatment that will be recommended by any doctor, as it should only be used if a person is suffering from chronic back pain, meaning pain that has persisted for over six months, and if the condition is particularly painful and causing them problems in their everyday life.

You should not take Lipitor if you have diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, or a muscle disorder, and you should not drink alcoholic beverages, have a chronic muscular disease, require major surgery, or have a blood disorder.

As with any other prescription drug, there are certain side effects that you may experience as a result of taking the drug and you want to make sure that you discuss all of these with your doctor and are fully understanding on them before starting yourself on the drug. This way you will be educated, know what to expect, and not be shocked if you do begin experiencing any of the possible side effects.

Many people turn to herbs for low back pain as an alternative to medication. This not only saves money, but it can also help avoid bothersome side effects, and reactions to other medications, when done properly.

Herbs that Can Be Used

There are many herbs that are used for back pain. Many of them are of Chinese origin since the Chinese have done extensive herbal research for homeopathic cures.
Some herbs for low back pain are:

*Ge Gen Tang, usually used for upper back pain, is usually taken in tablets.

*Cranberry pills can be used for back pain related to kidney problems. This herb for low back pain actually cures the cause of the pain, the kidney infection.

*Du Huo Ji Shen Wan is an herb for lower back pain, used to increase the blood flow to the lower back and as a mild kidney strengthener.

*Gui Fu Di Huang Wan, Jin Gui Di Huang Wan, or Sexoton is used for weak lower back pain.

*Glucosamine has been found to ease back pain if used over a long period of time, though no studies have found its use conclusive.

*Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium have been used to rebuild the bone in the spine when the pain is caused by degenerative spine disorder.

*White willow has been used as an immediate pain reliever, like ibuprofen, as well as flaxseed oil.

*Devil’s claw can be used three times a day as an anti-inflammatory herb for low back pain.

Research for Use

To find the herb that is best for your type of lower back pain, it is best to do research, and then try several herbs that are safe to use together. It is important to make sure that the herbs that are taken are compatible with any medications and any other herbs that you may be taking.

Personal research can easily be done on the subject of herbs for low back pain by checking out some in-depth books on the subject, such as The Treatment of Pain With Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture by Peilin Sun, Sun Peilin, The Healing Power of Vitamins, Minerals, and Herbs by the Reader’s Digest Association, Healing with the Herbs of Life by Lesley Tierra, and The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to the 50 Most Common Medicinal Herbs by Michael J. Smith and Heather Boon.

Heart palpatations with upper back pain is more common than most people think, mostly because they can be caused by such a wide range of things.

Heart palpatations with upper back pain often feels like the heart is racing, pounding, or fluttering along with a pressing pain in the back. It can also feel like a strange sensation in the heart area combined with a pain in the back. The heart palpatations can also be felt in the neck and can be combined with shaking hands and limbs. They can make you feel weak, sleepy, dizzy, or lightheaded.

It is advised that those suffering from heart palpatations with upper back pain should call their doctor immediately. The doctor may require the patient to use a heart monitor to track the heart palpitations. He will also check for any abnormalities and decease in the heart, lungs, and back. Some tests that may be done are: an electrocardiogram (EKG), blood and urine tests, chest x-ray, stress test, and an echocardiogram, also known as a heart ultrasound. A medication may be proscribed to control the symptoms.

Causes

Heart palpatations with upper back pain can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes are stress, drinking excessive caffeine, pregnancy, and exercise. Heart palpatations with upper back pain can also be caused by certain medications. Asthma inhalers, for instance, is notorious for giving the user heart palpatations. Other medications to look out for are beta blockers for high blood pressure, decongestants (they can contain acetaminophen which can cause palpations), and some herbs.

Many health problems can also cause heart palpatations with upper back pain, such as low blood sugar, dehydration, overactive thyroid, anemia, heart disease, an abnormal heart valve, tachycardia, and asthma attacks.

The use of legal and illegal drugs can also be a large factor in heart palpatations with upper back pain. Nicotine from smoking is a common drug cause. Also, any drug that makes the user feel hyper, such as speed, eightballs, and cocaine will cause heart palpatations with upper back pain.
A person can prevent heart palpatations with upper back pain by getting proper care by their doctor and by avoiding the medications and drugs listed above.

Heart palpatations with upper back pain are scary to experience, but can be avoided and treated, so they should not be ignored. A doctor should be contacted during each and every occurrence.

A hurt back is often the source of a lot of pain that can throw a sufferer’s whole life out of gear, for which they may choose to rest in order to get relief, though there are still some exercises for back pain that can be of great help as well. The reason why exercises for back pain can help is that they will bring the muscles back into play which would otherwise become too stiff and which will also lose their strength when not used over a prolonged time period.

Regularly Exercising Is Advisable

Regularly performing exercises for back pain can help improve your life and bring you more comfort, and even some amount of proper stretching will help in strengthening your muscles (abdominal) as well as provide more power to your back muscles. In fact, once you take to performing exercises for back pain, you will be quite surprised as to how much they help and how much they can alleviate your feelings of pain. Keeping up such exercises is bound to prove effective and in case of a chronic condition is very useful as well.

However, performing exercises for back pain are even useful in situations other than when feeling back pain, since they help in providing more strength to the muscles that lend support to your spine as well as helps keep the posture right. In fact, you could try out a very simple though effective exercise for back pain which will do wonders and which is known as ‘child’s pose’ in which you can stretch and which also proves effective as an exercise for warming up or cooling down.

The child’s pose is an effective exercise for back pain and you need to kneel and keep your chest bent towards the floor and try and rest your head on the floor, which will become a very relaxed position and where gravity will do the rest. This exercise for back pain will help in relaxing your shoulders and will make for an improved curving of your back.

Holding the right posture will go a long way in preventing back pain and you should be aware that a slouched position greatly contributes to the problem of back pain. Thus, you should pay special attention to those exercises for back pain that help in creating a proper posture and most of these exercises are rather simple to perform and they can be practiced almost everywhere as well.

Though you may not want to perform exercises for back pain everyday, it is still advisable to perform them as often as is possible and you should also try and avoid slouching if you want to remain free from back pain.

Back pain is scary. Paying doctor bills can be even scarier. This is why many people refuse to see a doctor about back pain until it is interfering with their quality of life. And this is inevitable. Of the top five reasons Americans go to the doctor, lower back pain is number five. Two-thirds of those who finally go to the doctor do not report any lessening of the pain in a month. One of the major causes of agony is herniated disc back pain. Although this sounds scary, at least you have a diagnosis.

When To Go To The Doctor

Most herniated disc back pain is in the lower spine area (called lumbar herniated discs) than in the neck (cervical herniated discs). Consequentially, more is known about lumbar herniated disc back pain than cervical herniated disc back pain. You need to go to the doctor when the pain (usually sharp, shooting pains that make you either gasp or leave you with your jaw hanging open) interferes with your ability to live a normal life. You should be able to stand up, lie down, sit, climb stairs and bend over without these pains. If not, you must go to the doctor.

What The Heck Happened?

A hernia is another name for a rupture. A hernia in your digestive organs is the most common of hernias, but they can also happen in your spine. Herniated disc back pain can come from a trauma or from the normal degeneration of the body during aging. After thirty, you’ve probably noticed that your body is less flexible and less forgiving. It is also thought that lumbar herniated disc back pain can be an inherited condition that causes your lumbar canal to be abnormally narrow and thus pinch a nerve.

What’s A Slipped Disc?

A slipped disc is the common name for herniated disc back pain. Nothing in the spine’s bones have actually gone anywhere, despite the name. Your discs are between your vertebras and are usually cushioned by water. Since the physical description is getting this writer nauseated, let’s move on to treatment options.

Treatment Options

There are several surgical procedures for herniated disc back pain, but they are considered a last resort. Any competent doctor will want you to try non-surgical methods first, which include hot and cold pack therapies, wearing a brace, hydrotherapy or even acupuncture. You usually get painkillers and other medications, as well. If you do not receive relief from the pain or suddenly develop loss of bodily controls, it’s time for surgery.

You have been suffering from lower back pain for quite some time now. You did not really think much of it at first, but now you are starting to worry. Thus, you have made an appointment with your physician, and are scheduled for a diagnostic evaluation of low back pain.

Just Relax

Many people worry about what a diagnostic evaluation of low back pain might entail. However, you really should not worry, because stress will only make the situation worse. The diagnostic evaluation of low back pain will probably begin with questions pertaining to how long this has been happening in your back.

Also, something else that you will be asked during your diagnostic evaluation of low back pain is how active you are physically. A common source of low back pain is muscle strain that has resulted from a person picking up something that is too heavy for them to carry.

Lower back pain can also be a sign of something more serious, such as problems with your kidneys, which are located in that area. To avoid kidney problems, you should, of course, eat a healthy diet, and you should also drink a lot of water.

So, you have answered the questions at your diagnostic evaluation of low back pain, so what happens now? It really all has to do with what you have been diagnosed with. For example, if the lower back pain has been caused by arthritis, you might need to take a special medication.

If this is the case, and the lower back pain has been caused by arthritis, you can also go the more holistic route by spending about a half hour a day (or as advised) in a hot tub. The warm water from the hot tub can definitely ease the back pain.

Another thing you can think about is getting massages. More and more medical centers are offering this option, so check to see if such an option is supported by your health plan. If not, you also have the option of setting up a regular schedule at a local spa or massage parlor.

While you can search the internet for basic information on various diagnostic evaluations on low back pain, it is important that you do not take the information available on various websites too seriously, the reason being that only your doctor can figure out the best treatment for you. Thus, when it comes to booking an appointment for a diagnostic evaluation on low back pain, do not wait!

For the large majority of Americans, back pain is no stranger to their lives. Most folks will experience back pain as a result of a day of gardening or moving furtniture. The pain will last a matter of days, and respond well to home treatments like over the counter pain medications, heating pads and rest. However, there is a small majority of people who will not see an end to their pain. These people will experience pain for three months or longer, will see the pain ebb and flow but will never see it go away for good. The people that fall into this category are suffering from chronic back pain, and will need to find alternative therapies and coping strategies to learn to minimize and live with the pain. Chronic back pain often does not have an identifiable cause, and it may not have an effective cure. For this reason, it is important to seek out support from the medical profession if you have chronic back pain, to manage your discomfort effectively and learn how to move forward with your life.

Treatment Options

There are many options in treatment for chronic back pain today, and most people will find that at least one or two are effective in managing the pain. The first course of action that is often tried is pain medication. While there are a number of over the counter choices that can effectively reduce the chronic back pain you are experiencing, not many of these medicines are considered safe over the long term. Your doctor may also prescribe medication, like an antidepressant or an opioid for more severe cases of chronic back pain. Medication is often given in tandem with other types of therapy, in hopes that the medication will eventually be slowed or stopped as strength is built up and pain is reduced naturally. Hot and cold therapy can also be effective, by applying the two to the affected area. Although this type of therapy is generally used for acute back pain, some people feel that they can get relief from their chronic back pain as well.

Exercise is an important component in managing chronic back pain, since exercise will keep the muscles strong and tension to a minimum. To avoid causing further injury to your back, it is best to develop an exercise program under the supervision of a trained professional, like a physical therapist or a personal trainer. A complete exercise program might include components like stretching, flexibility, aerobic workouts and strength training. Not only can exercise help with the chronic back pain that you are currently experiencing; it can also help to prevent additional pain and problems in the future.

For most, the best therapy to treat chronic back pain is a combination of treatments that are tailored to your unique needs and situation. With the supervision and care of your doctor, and a close adherence to the recommended therapies, you will see relief from your chronic back pain.

Most people in life will have some experience with having felt lower back pain and thus can relate to the problem either directly or indirectly and there no doubts that it is a very common problem that affects so many people. In fact, in the US alone, it is believed to be the number one reason why people take leave from work, and it is also the leading cause behind paying a visit to a doctor for treatment. Thus, this phenomenon has led to more than fifty billion dollar being spent on the study of the problem, and is also something that is having a lot of research being performed to find the proper cure and reasons for such a problem.

Many Causes Are Yet Unknown

There also no doubts that many of the causes of lower back pain are known to the medical fraternity; however, there is still reason to pursue the research into this problem further in order to identify any unknown and hidden reasons behind why you feels lower back pain. One of the names for lower back pain that you will be sure to come across is lumbago which is known to occur at any time and which is among the most common causes of lower back pain. If you happen to be a sufferer of lower back pain and lumbago in particular, it is time for you to get the condition checked by a doctor, especially if the condition persists longer than for a fortnight without showing signs of abating, or when the pain is insufferable.

Another possible cause of lower back pain is muscle strain that can occur when a person lifts heavy objects, or moves quickly, or is even a result of a fall. Such instances cause the muscles to either strain or get torn thus becoming inflamed and is thus a simple causes of lower back pain which can be explained when one considers that inflammation will promote muscle spasms and also restricts movement.

A herniated disk can also be considered among the causes of lower back pain since the discs in the spine, which are normally shock absorbers that provides a cushion to the bones when a person moves, can slip forward in the lower back and thus lead to lower back pain. Such a condition will worsen when you stand or even sit for long time, and another possible causes of lower back pain is degenerative disc disease, which is often a form of arthritis wherein the cartilage that lies between the joints breaks down, leading to low back pain.

Even as simple a condition as not exercising regularly can be considered causes of lower back pain, and even smoking can contribute to lower back pain as well.

Your lower back is the connecting point between your upper and lower body. It stands to reason that an area that works so hard and takes so much stress and strain from the rest of the body will hurt on occasion. Some studies show that as many as 80% of American adults will experience back pain at one time or another. And for many of these people, lower back pain will be the problem. There are many ways to treat this type of discomfort, but it is best to determine the cause of the lower back pain so that you can find the most effective treatment options for you. In many cases, this will be easier said than done, since the cause of lower back pain is often not terribly obvious. You may simply wake up one morning with pain in your lower back, without much of a clue as to how or why it began. However, there are some basic causes of lower back pain that you can consider in determining why your back hurts.

Muscle Strain

This is by far the most common cause of lower back pain. It is easy to strain these muscles through your daily activities – if you do not take care to protect this area of your back. Lifting heavy objects is a frequent cause of lower back pain, because many of us perform this task improperly. Instead of bending the knees and allowing the leg muscles to take the bulk of the weight, many will bend over from the back, and strain the muscles in the area when they stand back up. It is also easy to strain the muscles in this area through household chores like raking, gardening and vacuuming. Any activity that requires frequent bending or lifting can strain this area and be a cause of lower back pain. In most of these circumstances, resting the back, taking over the counter pain medication and applying hot and cold packs will be enough to heal the back and reduce the pain.

Poor Posture

There’s a very good reason why your mother used to constantly remind you to stand up straight when you were a kid. Poor posture can be a cause of lower back pain, and can be a bit more difficult to remedy than a simple muscle strain can. There are some types of back support, or braces, that you can wear to improve your posture and support your lower back. However, constant use of these devices can lead to atrophy in some muscles, so they are not recommended for all day use. However, if you wear them for a short period of time each day, they can improve your posture and your lower back pain as well. It is also important to strengthen the muscles of your core so that your lower back has the additional support. You can do this through abdominal exercises like crunches. A tighter abdomen will lead to a stronger, less painful back.

There are many causes of lower back pain, but by pinpointing the reason for your discomfort, you can find the most effective treatment plan for you.

For some kinds of back pains, the causes are absolutely mysterious. Maybe a butterfly flapped its wings in Japan and somehow that minute shift in the planet’s gravity field gave you back pain. But with upper back pain, there are often physical causes and treatments available. Some people go to a doctor or chiropractor for their pain to discover the diagnosis as a misaligned rib. Can a misaligned rib cause upper back pain? Certainly.

It Will Not Go Away On It’s Own

Can a misaligned rib cause upper back pain that makes it hard to breathe? Especially yes. You can get a misaligned rib from many causes. I popped one of my floating ribs out from a coughing fit during laryngitis. (The doctor actually used the words, “Popped out.” Now I know it’s called “misaligned rib”). Your ribs are attached to your spine – only in one place with the case of floating ribs, two in the thoracic. That’s a lot of places on your spine that can potentially go wrong.

If you think, “Can a misaligned rib causing upper back pain just stop doing so one day without me having to go to a doctor?” think again. You ideally need to go to a chiropractor, which can usually push everything back into place, but that is up to your doctor. Some GPs know some chiropractic moves and can work on you in the office (which happened to me). Although chiropractic adjustment is considered alternative medicine, it is more and more being covered by health insurance. You also need any prescriptions for painkillers that they offer.

Will It Ever Come Back?

Can a misaligned rib causing upper back pain continue to do so throughout your life? This is definitely possible, but not a definite yes. Any rib that pops out once will be prone to do so for the rest of your life, but might never do so. Try not to worry about your rib popping out again until you absolutely have to. Did my rib ever pop out again? Yes, many times, but I only needed to go to the doctor the first time. I happened to learn how to push the rib back on my own. I do not recommend that for anyone else, since my rib is not your rib!

Can a misaligned rib causing upper back pain make your life a living hell? Actually, there are lots worse pains in life, which hopefully you will never find out. At least the pain with a misaligned rib tends to go away after a medical visit, and there is treatment. For a floating rib, there’s not much you can do but take lots of painkillers, rest, moan and try to enjoy the time off of work.

Before you can settle on a particular back pain treatment, it is necessary for you to first have a doctor perform tests in order to find out the exact cause of the back pain, which can stem from a number of different causes. Of course, the back pain treatment goals must aim to provide relief from the pain and also to help in restoring movement and typical such treatment is to rest, with even an ice pack for more comfort, while an aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) would help in reducing pain as well as the inflammation.

More Than Long Term Rest

Once you find that the inflammation has begun to subside, you can then think of the next step in back pain treatment and that is to apply heat to the back so that your muscles is become soothed and so too the connective tissues. However, be advised that long term rest as a back pain treatment method is not recommended as it can potentially do you harm, and it will also mean slower recovery, and may even give rise to further and newer problems.

Doctors may advise you to take up normal activities (non-strenuous) within a day or three days of your experiencing back pain, after which you can take to performing controlled exercises and even take physical therapy as the next step in your back pain treatment. If undergoing physical therapy, you can expect to be massaged, have ultrasound treatment, whirlpool baths, and even controlled heat application as well as performing some exercises that are individually tailored for your particular condition.

Another aspect to back pain treatment is that, in case your back pain prevents you from performing daily activities, you may find that your doctor recommends pain medications and maybe even over-the-counter painkillers to provide you with relief. In addition, you may also be prescribed anti-inflammatory or pain medicines of prescription strength, and even may recommends opioid/acteminophen medication combinations of which Vicodin and Percocet are good example. However, be warned that such medications can affect your brain than the muscles and you may also feel very drowsy as a result of taking them.

Sometimes, your back pain may also be so severe that your normal physician may be unable to deal with it, and so to get the proper back pain treatment, you may be referred to a back specialist or even a pain specialist, who may be forced into giving you injection of steroids and even anesthetics to help you get relief from the pain. There no doubts that knowing the cause of your back pain and getting the proper back pain treatment should be your main aim.

It used to be that if a person had back pain, they would have to suffer in silence. There were simply no remedies. Luckily, nothing could be farther from the truth today. If you are suffering from back pain, there are many different ways that you can have it treated in the form of back pain therapy.

Do You Need Back Pain Therapy Because of a Sports Injury?

If you are a person that likes to compete in sports, or just likes to do sports in general, chances are that at some point you will seek back pain therapy. If you have an athletic trainer, he or she might tell you that you need to “walk it off.” Have you ever noticed that in the midst of working out or doing a sport, an athlete might walk around in between doing the actual sport?

Specifically, back pain is sometimes caused when you do not use your back muscles very much and they become stiff. Thus, sometimes you will need to move around to get them to limber up. That is one of the reasons why it is so important to warm up before doing a sport or exercising – your muscles need to be properly conditioned.

Do You Need Back Pain Therapy Because of a Hernia?

Hernias are usually caused when a muscle falls out of place and tears, usually because of having lifted something much too heavy. If a hernia is not too serious, you can wear a truss, which serves to keep the hernia in place. However, hernias might require surgery if they are more serious.

For More Information

No matter how you go the back pain that you are presently suffering from, the most popular form of back pain therapy that is available is a massage. You can, of course, get one done professionally, or if you would like to have a massage whenever you can, there are massagers that you can buy, generally from technology stores.

For more information on the various back pain therapy options that are available to you, consult with your doctor, or search the internet. You can also go to your local bookstore, because there are many different books written by doctors that you might find helpful. If possible, try to steer away from medication, since hydrotherapy is more beneficial. You are sure to find the right back pain therapy for you with the proper research.

Back pain inversion tables are classic pain relievers. Many people choose these tables because of their simplicity and ease.

A back pain inversion table is simply a padded table that the user straps himself to. The table can then be flipped, putting the user in an inverted position. Some of the newer models do not use straps. These employ padded bars that the user slips their feet under. This keeps the user in place as they are flipped up-side down.

Back pain inversions tables work by using gravity to put pressure on the spinal cord, stretching it out. This can decompress the disks in the back, as well as loosen the muscles around it. This effectively relieves back pain.

Here are the pros and cons to choosing a back pain inversion table.

Pros

Many people love back pain inversion tables because they can ease back pain without the use of medication or herbal supplements. This really appeals to those who look for all-natural, no chemical pain treatments.

Other people love back pain inversion tables because they are so easy to use. In fact, they are a study in simple medicine. They don’t require a lot of complicated assembly, they don’t have complicated instructions, and the medical principals behind them are simple to understand.
The use of a back pain inversion table also helps to correct bad posture, which can inadvertently ease back pain.

Cons

The real cons of back pain inversion tables have to do with storage. Back pain inversion tables are very bulky and are not easy to store out of the way. They also require quite a bit of floor space when in use. Usually, it takes around six square feet of clear floor space to operate a back pain inversion table. Many people don’t have this kind of room to spare in their homes and apartments. The die-hard user may find that it is worth moving the furniture aside to use the back pain inversion table, though.

Also, some people find that hanging up-side down is very uncomfortable. This can be due to joint pain, chafing from the straps, blood rushing to the head, or fear of hanging up-side down. These tables are also not a great idea for those who have weak ankles or joint problems in the ankles.

Just as with any pain killer, there are always upsides and downsides. To choose the one that is right for you, you must weigh the pros with the cons and choose what you are most comfortable with.

You and your husband are eagerly awaiting the birth of your first child. However, the excitement gives way to pain sometimes, because as the pregnancy goes along you are experiencing more and more back pain during pregnancy. Thus, you need some ideas as to how to feel more comfortable.

Do Not Let Your Back Pain During Pregnancy Interfere with Your Excitement!

Pregnancy is a very important and exciting time in your life, and as such you want to be able to look back on it with fond memories, instead of remembrances of how hard it was. In the first part of pregnancy, morning sickness was the main problem, and now you have to deal with back pain during pregnancy too.

However, back pain during pregnancy usually comes towards the end of the pregnancy, when the weight of the baby you are carrying around becomes a strain on your back. Thus, the first thing that you should do when you are feeling back pain during pregnancy is to find a reclining chair and sit down for a while.

Indeed, your body, especially since this is for first child, is not used to accommodating a baby within it, so the back pain that happens during pregnancy is the body’s way of letting you know about the changes that are taking place. Thus, another way to alleviate the back pain is to sit in some warm water.

It should be noted that the warm water should be in the bathtub and not a Jacuzzi. The reason for this is that the pulsating vibrations of the water can sometimes stimulate early labor. So, stick to lukewarm bathwater instead.

Also, alleviating back pain is as simple as getting a favorite soft pillow and placing it behind your back. This especially works well if you are still working at an office and need to sit in an office chair during the day.

Something else to remember is that moving around and doing certain exercises can help too. Consult your obstetrician for various exercise classes that you can take. The classes are usually divided into sections in accordance with how far along women are in their preganancies. Not only will these classes help with the back pain, but they can also help when it comes to keeping in shape! So, be patient – after all, the beautiful little baby you will have at the end of the pregnancy journey is certainly worth it!

Understanding Back and Neck Pain

There are many different causes of back and neck pain, and almost everyone suffers from either one or even both at one point in their life or another. Back and neck pain can be extremely painful, even crippling, and it often affects people’s lives so greatly that they are not even able to do their regular, daily chores and tasks.

Lower Back Pain

One of the most common back pain conditions occurs in the lower back, where there is typically the most wear and tear. While there are many different possible causes of lower back pain most cases are linked to a general cause such as a muscle strain or to a specific and diagnosable condition such as degenerative disc disease for instance.

Neck Pain

When it comes to neck pain, although the vast majority of cases dealing with neck pain get better with time and can be addressed and treated with mild methods of treatment, there are cases in which the neck pain persists and more serious methods need to be involved. There are also many episodes of neck pain in which there is no identifiable anatomical cause, most are linked to at least one general cause.

Treating Back and Neck Pain

Everyone’s case of back and neck pain is different and therefore needs to be assessed by a medical professional in order to be able to determine what the specific and proper method of treatment is going to be for that particular case. Exercise is usually always the first recommended option, because it helps to relax and strengthen the sore muscles. This is one of the less severe methods of treatment that are available, but one that works quite well on most patients.

Finding a good chiropractor is also going to be a great idea, because these are professionals that specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to mechanical dysfunction in the joints, particularly in the back and neck areas.

If you ever start experiencing any sort of back or neck pain, you should get in to see your doctor as soon as possible so that you can have a proper, professional assessment and diagnosis and get on the road to recovery as soon as possible. Not only that, but back pain can often be a sign of something much more serious so it is even more vital that you seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Many forms of arthritis can contribute to back pain including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis. Arthritis pain is a hard ailment to treat and some types of arthritis, including those that cause back pain, continue to get worse as we age.

Other Symptoms

Back pain is one of the most common and difficult to treat ailments. And many times back pain is directly related to arthritis. The pain can slowly become more and more noticeable with time and be worse in the evening or when trying to relax. Morning stiffness and pain in other parts of the body are other symptoms. Of course back pain can be related to diseases other than arthritis, so a trip to your doctor is definitely warranted.

Treatments

The treatments for arthritis pain whether in your back, shoulders, neck, knees or hands is basically the same. Heat therapies have always been exceedingly popular, now more than ever. New continuous low level heat therapy has been found to be very effective in reducing pain and increasing flexibility. These heat sources consist of the over-the-counter large bandage type patches containing chemicals that offer up to eight hours of 104 degrees of continuous heat.

Other common treatments include physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid injections and even dietary therapies. Chiropractics and acupuncture are some other very helpful treatments. Pain management techniques for arthritis can be used alone, but most likely will be used in multiples. Some treatments will stop working in time and new methods will have to be found to control pain effectively.

Support

Arthritic back pain can be debilitating and can lead to emotional stress and psychological support may become necessary. A professional therapist should be consulted if serious problems arise.

It may even become necessary to change your profession depending on the type of work that you do and the seriousness of your disease. Back pain, whether arthritis related or not, is the number one cause of disability today. Depend on friends and family members for support and reassurance. Having loving people around you can make all the difference when facing these life-changing decisions.

If you experience any recurring pain in your back or other joints or muscles make an appointment to see your doctor. Back pain is a symptom not a disease and the root of the pain must be discovered before any effective treatment method can be prescribed.

Allegra and Allegra D are powerful and popular drugs for combating allergy problems. However, like any drug, they can give you negative side effects. Up to 2% of people take Allegra and back pain results. This back pain is usually in the upper back, behind the shoulder blades. It’s not serious, not crippling and never happens to 98% of Allegra takers. If you take Allegra and back pain pops up, call your doctor. You might not need to stop taking Allegra or Allegra D.

Coping With The Ouch

If Allegra is the only thing that gets you through allergy season, then stopping may not be a viable option for you. That doesn’t mean you take Allegra and back pain is your burden. There are things you can do to help ease your back pain while you are taking Allegra. These include:

Over the counter painkillers: Although it may seem silly to have to take one pill to counter the effects of another, this may be what you have to do in order to have a normal quality of life. For some people taking Allegra and back pain happens, taking acetaminophen, aspirin or ibuprofen takes away the pain.
Cold Therapy: You need to place ice, a cold pack or a cold compress on your place of “Ouch”! The cold can ease the pain, or at least numb it somewhat. Some doctors recommend a bag of frozen peas as the perfect cold pack because you are less likely to get a cold burn or strange skin mottling. You need to cook the peas when they thaw out, though. Cold therapy is NOT recommended for anyone with circulation problems.
Hot Therapy: Invest in a heating pad that you can microwave (presuming you also have a microwave oven). This gives dry heat, which can be very soothing. Moist heat is the key for other people taking Allegra and back pain comes on, so they prefer to soak in a hot tub or a hot shower to ease the pain. You have to try each method to see which works best for you.
Massage: You cannot massage your own back, so someone will have to do it for you. You can go visit a professional or anyone with a kind touch who doesn’t mind seeing your bare back. Massages are best done with lotion or oil that is room temperature and hands free of rings or long fingernails. Aromatherapy oils dripped in the mix are optional. Rosemary and marjoram are especially recommended for soreness.

Back pain muscle spasms are painful, but they have an important purpose. The spasms prevent any further damage to the muscles by stiffening the muscles.

Causes

Back pain muscle spasms can be caused by a variety of things. If you are experiencing frequent back pain muscle spasms you may want to take note of what you may be doing to cause them. Some of the causes can be:

*Inflamed muscles caused by muscle overuse.
*Muscle trauma that can be caused by a car crash or fall.
*Repetitive strain, such as a job that requires the back to be in an uncomfortable position for a long time.

Cures

There are several ways to cure back pain muscle spasms without the use of medication and they can be done in the comfort of your home.

Supporting the back muscles is important. This can be done by buying a good, firm mattress and by wearing a sturdy back brace after the spasms and while lifting heavy objects. Traction devices are used in extreme circumstances when the back is particularly damaged. Traction takes weight off of the damaged muscle so that it can heal. They should only be used, though, under the care of a doctor.

Ice is another popular treatment. Ice should be used in the first three days of spasms to help the swelling go down. Care should be taken so that more damage is not done to the muscle. The cold pack should be wrapped in a towel and not placed directly to the skin. After the swelling has gone down, heat packs should be used to sooth the muscles. Moist heat is best because it help avoid dehydration.

One popular way to get rid of back pain muscle spasms is the use of herbs. Many people have found that cranberry pills is great for back pain related to kidney problems because it curse the kidney infection that cause the back pain muscle spasms. Du Huo Ji Shen Wan is another good herb for kidney related back pain. Many find that white willow is a good, natural pain killer that can be used instead of aspirin or ibuprofen.

The Chinese herb Gui Fu Di Huang Wan, also known as Jin Gui Di Huang Wan and Sexoton, is used for weak lower back pain. To cure the degenerative problems that causes back pain, many use glucosamine, calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium. Devil’s claw has been used as an anti-inflammatory.

As you can see, many things can be done to ease back pain muscle spasms.

There is really no other pain in the world like back pain, because pain anywhere in the back can be extremely painful, even crippling, and usually radiates into other parts of the body as well. There are all different sorts of back pain that you can suffer from, and lower right side back pain is one of the most commonly experienced, by far.

Almost everyone suffers from lower back pain at one point or another in their life, and while some are lucky and their pain goes away on its own, for others it can be a serious even lifelong ailment that they have to deal with every day. The best way to deal with lower back pain is to understand more about it first and learn about what causes it so that you can then work towards eliminating the cause as best as you can.

Common Causes

Everyone leads a different life and so the cause of one’s back pain can be from an array of different causes. There are a few that are especially common however, including poor posture, daily work habits, riding in a car for a long period of time, poor overall physical condition, working at a computer all day, lifting incorrectly and weak lumber muscles.

Treatment

The treatment that you should go with will vary, depending on what particular type of back pain you are suffering from and how severe your condition is. Exercise has always shown to be one of the most effective forms of treatment however, as it helps to work out and stretch the muscles in your back and help them from becoming tense and sore.

There are actually a variety of different exercises that you can do which are designed specifically to work the back, and the object of these exercises is basically to rehabilitate the spine and to strengthen the muscles that are surrounding it so that you can not only reduce the back pain you are presently suffering from but also so that you can prevent a reoccurrence of the back pain in the future.

If your lower back pain is especially serious you may want to speak to your doctor about more serious measures, because exercise may just not be enough in your case. Back pain can often be a sign of more serious health problems and conditions so it is important that you seek medical attention just to make sure that there is nothing more serious going on.

This is why it is so important to properly deal with back pain, whether it is lower left back pain or pain in any other specific area of the back. The best way to deal with your back pain is to figure out what the cause of the pain is and then work as best as you can towards eliminating this cause from your life. In a lot of cases however this is not an option, for instance people who work in an office or drive around in a vehicle all day, and who need to continue doing so in order to make a living.

There are still things that you can do to relieve your back pain however, and prevent it from coming back so seriously in the future.

Treatment

Remember that everyone’s case of back pain is different and so what works for one person may not work well or even at all for you. This is why you really need to treat your back pain condition as separate and individual from everyone else’s if you want to be able to properly treat your condition and relieve your back pain.

Physical therapy and exercise is the method of treatment that is usually first recommended, and a physical therapist will be assigned to you to apply a variety of treatments. Heat, ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation and more will be used to attempt to relieve your back pain, and the therapist will also be able to work with you and teach you about the specific exercises that are going to help you to increase your flexibility and strengthen your back and neck muscles.

If your back pain condition is more serious than it may be recommended that you receive Cortisone injections. This is an anti-inflammatory medication that is injected into the space around the spinal cord and which helps to decrease any inflammation and swelling around the nerve roots, thereby relieving back pain.

It is important that you work together with your doctor if you have a back pain condition, so that they can see exactly where the problem lies and what the best method of treatment is going to be for you.

Nearly everyone will experience lower back pain at one time or another. It makes sense when you consider that this area of the back shoulders most of the burden of holding you upright and maintaining the strain and weight of the rest of the body. It also stands to reason that pain in this area will affect your entire being, making it difficult to go through your day. The good news is that there are plenty of effective home remedies that will get you back on the road to pain-free days in no time. And when the home remedies don’t do the trick the way they should, your doctor has additional treatments that you can try for lower back pain relief.

Treatment at Home

In the large majority of the lower back pain cases, the pain is the result of a strained muscle, poor posture or improper lifting. In most of these situations, there are plenty of options in home remedies that can ease the pain and get you back on your feet, enjoying your daily activities. If your lower back pain is caused by an injury of some sort, it is best to apply ice to the affected area every few hours for the first day or two. You can then replace the ice with a heating pad every few hours until the pain subsides. You can also take an over the counter pain medication like acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve the discomfort. Ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a good choice in pain relievers for lower back pain.

Rest can also help to relieve lower back pain, as long as it is only done for a day or two. Most medical experts will agree that the quickest way to heal a back is by getting back in action as quickly as possible. Continue to take over the counter pain medicine as needed to allow you to resume your daily activities. Walking is a good exercise to get your back in shape without putting undue strain on it. Start with about ten minutes each day, and gradually increase the amount of time that you walk.

Talking to the Doctor

If your home remedies do not seem to do the trick to relieve your lower back pain, your doctor will have additional treatment options available. He may prescribe a more powerful pain medication or recommend physical therapy to strengthen your back and get it back in shape. Other types of treatment that work well for lower back pain include chiropractic treatments, massage and acupuncture. However, not all treatments will work equally well for all patients, so you may need to use some trial and error to determine which ones will be most effective for you.

When your back hurts, it is hard to concentrate on anything else in life. This is why back pain relief becomes so important to back pain sufferers who want the pain to go away as soon as possible. The bad news is that there is no instant “cure” for back pain, since most methods will take some time to see the results. However, the good news is that by trying out some of the tried and true methods of back pain relief, you can be on the road to more pain-free days in less than a week in many cases. The key is in following the most effective methods of pain relief to find the ones that will work the best for you.

At Home

When people begin to feel pain in the back, the first thing they often reach for is an over the counter pain reliever. While this can be a good choice, especially for acute pain that does not last more than a few days, select one that has anti-inflammatory properties that will give you maximum benefit and back pain relief. These medications include ibuprofen and naproxen. Keep in mind that not everyone can safely take these medications however, so if you are in doubt as to whether this is the right choice for you, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

You can also try rest for a day or two to see if this helps the pain to subside. Most doctors will recommend that you remain sedentary for only a couple of days, since time will actually cause more problems than it helps. Instead, try to resume normal activities as quickly as possible for speedier back pain relief. You can also try alternating hot and cold packs to the affected area, beginning with ice and moving to a heating pad. Never let either of these touch bare skin, and monitor both very carefully while using them.

At your Doctor’s Office

When home remedies don’t work, your doctor has additional therapies that you can try. Physical therapy is a good choice; not only to bring back pain relief to the current problem, but to strengthen the area and prevent future pain. Chiropractic care has become a popular choice in back pain relief today, and involves adjustment of the spine through manipulation techniques that will result in realignment of the back and relief from pinched nerves and tight muscles.

Massage is another good choice in back pain relief, and your doctor should be able to recommend a massage therapist in your area that can help you. Some people also find that acupuncture is an effective means of back pain relief, and often your massage therapist or chiropractor can recommend someone for this type of therapy as well. Acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles under the skin to bring relief from pain and enhanced relaxation to the body. No matter what you choose, you can rest assured that there is probably an effective method of back pain relief for you.

It seems that when your back hurts, everything else hurts as well. It’s no wonder, when you consider how much stress and strain your back takes every day to support the rest of your body. When you experience back pain, you want relief as soon as possible. This may make it tempting to call your doctor at the first sign of pain, but there are plenty of types of back pain that can be effectively treated at home. However, there is an appropriate time to see your doctor for a diagnosis of your back pain and an effective treatment strategy. The key is in understanding which types of pain you can successfully relieve at home, and which will require the care of a professional.

Home Care

We all experience back pain at one time or another. The discomfort can be caused by poor posture, lifting a heavy object improperly or simply moving the back the wrong way. In most of these cases, home care will do the trick for your back pain. This might include alternating hot and cold packs on the area, rest and over the counter pain medications. In most of these situations, you will see relief from your back pain within 72 hours, although it may take much longer for the pain to go away completely. However, if you cannot pinpoint the cause of your pain, or if your discomfort does not improve after a few days of home care, it may be time to see your doctor for a more precise diagnosis and a more effective treatment plan.

Warning Signs

There are some rare occasions when back pain can be a symptom of a more serious medical problem. There are some signs that you should watch for, and call your doctor if you experience any of them. If your pain is constant and intense, and worsens when lying down, this could be a sign of another health issue. It is also important to call if you feel the pain down one or both legs, or if you feel numbness or tingling in your limbs. If your back pain is accompanied by fever, stomach problems or weakness, these would also be indications that you should see your doctor. Finally, unexplained weight loss is always something that should be explored by a medical professional, to rule out any underlying medical problems.

While the large majority of back pain cases will respond well to home care, there are situations that will warrant a call to your doctor. He can examine you further to ensure that your back pain is not a symptom of a more serious illness, and get you back on the road to better health and pain-free days once again.
